Malankara Catholic Youth Movement (MCYM)
The St. Thomas Malankara Catholic Church, Borivali is one of the oldest Malankara communities in Bombay since 1978. It currently falls under the Eparchy of St. Ephrem in Khadki, Pune. In the year 1992 under the guidance of Fr. Geevarghese Palavilayil OIC, the foundation of MCYM Borivali was laid through a young and vibrant group of youth born and brought up in Borivali, along with some migrant youth from Kerala. However, it was only in the year 1995 that MCYM Borivali officially came into existence. Over the years MCYM Borivali grew not just in number but also in spirituality and faith. Prayer meetings, charity works, and other youth activities were held regularly. The youth also organized and held cultural events like the Onam and Christmas celebrations. They also actively participated in the church choir and altar services. It was also during this period that MCYM Borivali started participating in Y-Zest, the annual youth festival of MCYM Mumbai and they also won numerous prizes through sheer hard work and persistence.
MCYM Borivali still continues with this zeal and enthusiasm. It works for the community and conducts various cultural, intellectual, political, spiritual and social events. One of which is Umeed - a sports led charity event.
WE ARE PART OF A BIGGER FAMILY!!!
Malankara Catholic Youth Movement (MCYM)
The Malankara Catholic Youth Movement, commonly referred to as MCYM, is the official youth wing of the Malankara Catholic Church. It was founded in 1971 under the visionary leadership of Rev. Fr. Dominic Skariah and with the blessing of the late Archbishop Benedict Gregorios, during the Malankara Christian Convention held at St. Peter’s Church, Pathanamthitta, Kerala within the Thiruvananthapuram Diocese. The movement was established with the mission to foster youth development in spirituality and faith, grounded in Catholic teachings and beliefs, to ensure a strong foundation for the Church.
Our Mission:
MCYM aims at the total liberation of society and the integral development of youth through its core pillars: Spiritual, Intellectual, Social, Cultural, and Political.
Spiritual: Through this pillar MCYM aims to deepen the Christian faith of youth, integrating faith principles into their daily lives while fostering a spiritual outlook and leadership style rooted in Christian ideals through a committed life of prayer. It encourages the promotion of an exemplary Christian lifestyle, nurturing an active sacramental life, and a deep appreciation for the Church’s liturgical practices. Additionally, it seeks to provide practical training for leadership roles in catechesis, prayer meetings, retreats, and Bible conventions, equipping youth to be effective leaders within the Church community.
Intellectual: Here, it aims to facilitate the learning and propagation of Church doctrines alongside scientific and technological knowledge, creating a holistic educational experience. By organizing discussions, seminars, debates, meetings, exhibitions, and study tours, it provides diverse opportunities for youth to engage in meaningful intellectual exploration. Additionally, the establishment of study circles and libraries supports their ongoing intellectual growth. Emphasizing the use of modern scientific and technological skills, this approach promotes educational advancement, ensuring that youth are well-equipped to integrate faith with contemporary knowledge.
Social: In the social pillar the focus is on analyzing the current state of society and addressing social issues through positive actions rooted in Christian ideals. By seeking solutions to social problems through organized activities, the initiative aims to create tangible impact. Additionally, it emphasizes the dissemination of information on welfare schemes offered by the government and the Church, ensuring that these resources reach those in need. To further this mission, action plans are developed and implemented for the upliftment of backward communities and marginalized groups, promoting social equity and justice.
Cultural: The objective of the cultural pillar is to defend and promote both Christian and Indian cultural traditions while providing opportunities for youth to appreciate the rich intellectual heritage and philosophy of India. This is achieved through the organization of youth festivals, literary and cultural training camps, competitions, and gatherings that celebrate and deepen understanding of these traditions. Additionally, the initiative seeks to discover and nurture the literary and athletic talents of youth, encouraging them to develop their skills and contribute to the cultural and intellectual fabric of their communities.
Political: Through this pillar the aim is to educate and encourage active participation of the youth in politics as an essential democratic responsibility. By motivating members to engage in the political process, the initiative seeks to cultivate leaders who are committed to representing and advancing their communities. This focus on political involvement emphasizes the importance of contributing to the democratic process and shaping policies that reflect the values and needs of the community.
